Zusammenfassung
The aim of this study was to know the seed population which remains in the soil, at the end of eight months after a wildfire, in a Pinus radiata plantation, in comparison with the seed bank existing in the other plan tation part that did not suffer the effect of fire. The area is located in La Degollada Park, municipal district of Candamo, Asturias province.
In April 1991, eight months after fire, ten samples of 20 x 25 cm. were taken at 5 cm in depth. These samples were subdivided in two strata: 0-2 cm. (upper stratum 1) and 2-5 cm. (lówer stratum 11), in the bumt and control areas.
In the bumt area, the greatest number of seedlings were found in the stratum I (242), in the stratum II the number of seedlings was least ( 173), annual herbaceous were dominant at both strata. When the number of species were considered, perennial herbaceous were dominant at both strata.
In the control area, the number of seedlings was less in the stratum I ( 1066) tan in the stratum 11 ( l l 99), pe(ennial herbaceous were dominant at both strata. With regard to identified species number, perennial species were dominant at both strata.
