Abstract
In the past there was a strong tendency towards keeping language and
translation separate, which brought about a situation in which very little
attention was paid to the contribution of linguistics to the art, science or
craft of translation. When translation started to be seen more and more as
an interdisciplinary subject, keener interest was taken in the findings of
linguistics, and more precisely in what functional linguistics had to say
about language in use inscribed in a certain context of situation or context
of culture
