Las familias del comercio de una villa del interior peninsular en el siglo XVIII: Aranda de Duero

Abstract

[ES] Utilizando fuentes muy variadas, sobre todo las notariales, hemos reconstruido las trayectorias de las familias de comerciantes de la villa burgalesa de Aranda de Duero a lo largo del siglo XVIII. Las principales aportaciones son, por una parte, la importancia y vitalidad de unos negocios muy variados, donde junto a los textiles se vende vino y artículos de cerería. Por otra parte, la conexión endogámica y consanguínea de las familias, donde adquieren un papel protagonista las mujeres en el comercio y las herencias. Y finalmente, en sus condiciones de vida junto a la tradición se apreciarán signos de modernidad.

[EN] For this research we have used several sources, especially notarial documents. Thus we have reconstructed the family trajectories of the merchants of Aranda de Duero, in the southern Burgos, along the 18th century. The main contributions are, on the one hand, the importance and vitality of some businesses, in which textiles, wine and wax products could be sold together. On the other hand, the inbreeding family connections, with a leading role of the women in commercial and inherited decisions. Finally, signs of modernity will be introduced in their living conditions combined with the tradition.
