Abstract
[EN] The disappearance of most of the liturgical celebrations and rituals of the Late medieval Church in the subsequent evolution of the rite have favored the distance and incomprehension of many objects that we have been lucky enough to preserve today, but whose real significance we do not get right to fully evaluate when finding them habitually out of context and original function. Although it is not possible to recover the inmaterial activity, just as it was, we can, in some cases, reconstruct it virtually through the preserved documentation and these material traces, both the devices that were used and the spaces that hosted them, which can thus be better understood. In this case, a sumptuary piece – an altar frontal not currently preserved – comes to life and meaning thanks to the study of a feast – the Expectation of the Virgin – and a liturgical celebration – the prayer of the major antiphons –, which we basically know through primary sources and other conserved works of art, today relocated from their original spatial framework, like the named “pregnant virgins”. The objective of this article is, then, to get closer to these goods, material and immaterial, to know them better individually, but above all to be able to understand the whole of a religious activity totally disappeared nowadays.
