The investigation axes of the Agroforestry Engineering Department of the
Santiago of Compostela University, attempt to give responses to problems
outlined in the current rural means. Concretely, the axe developed by the
Laboratory of Projects and Rural Planning, of said department, is centered in
rural Projects and Planning.
The "rural system" undertake many more sectors in addition to the agrarian, and rural
development new policies intend that this will be integral, that take advantage of all
the potentials that offers the rural means and that it will be capable of attending the
demands required by the society. Thus, it is necessary to know which is the current
state and trends of the different subsystems that constitute a rural territory, before
any proposition of goals to achieve.
This investigation project is centered in the Municipality of Trabada (Lugo) and tries
to characterize this territorial system. Through aerial photographs is analyzed the
land uses evolution, all long the time period elapsed between the fifty’s decade and
the current time. The photo-interpretation permits to obtain a vision of all the territory
and to get information about socioeconomic activities, infrastructures, pressure on
the environment,…
Once done the diagnosis of the current situation, are proposed a series of
performances to obtain an objective territorial model. When are proposed the
planning performances, the problem should be approached with a systemic
perspective, considering all the subsystems that compose this territory, and using
criteria of environmental and socioeconomic nature.
The engaged tool are the Geographic Information Systems (GIS). These are
computer systems that permit to store and to process georeferenced data. The
information determined through photo-interpretation is digitized to define the current
territorial model, and through the analytical functions of a GIS, it is proposed a
territorial model that brand as an objective to achieve.
