The objective of the study was to analyze the evolution of the physical condition of the different soccer referees throughout their season. Secondarily, we wanted to determine the influence of the technical difficulty of the matches in the effort made by the referees. The study involved seven referees from different categories. All of them were subjected to different physical tests throughout the season. The tests used by the referees' technical committees were used, as well as specific tests that were implemented. The effort made in the matches was analyzed using the rating of perceived exertion and heart rate. In addition, a technical analysis of the matches was made taking into account different parameters (cards, goals, penalties...). The results show, in general, a stabilization of the physical condition of the referees throughout the season. Correlations were found between the results obtained in the specific tests with the results obtained in the federation’s tests. It was found that those matches where there are a lower number of goals are perceived as more demanding, as well as those in which a penalty is awarded. All this suggests that a higher level of general physical condition will have a positive effect on the referees, so the regular training of the referees should be enhanced, in order to achieve a better result in the season.
