AB The study is focused on the changes in theconsumption of electronic information bythe academic communities of five Spanishuniversities through the contentsdistributed by four widely used suppliers,from the very first subscription to themdown to 2010. Similarly, the preferences ofthese institutions for titles distributed bythe suppliers under consideration and theirlinks to various different academic fieldswere investigated. From 24% to 30% of theoverall total of downloads came from thetop 25 favourite titles of the respectiveacademic communities. This fact points to aneed to go beyond the Big Deal model andstrive for greater flexibility in subscriptionsto resources, so as to have made-tomeasuresupplies
