Currently most research autonomous systemsare built using the ROS framework, along with other commercialsoftware. ROS is a distributed framework where nodes publishinformation that other nodes consume. This model simplifies datacommunication but poses a major threat because a maliciousprocess could easily interfere the communications, read privatemessages or even supersede nodes. In this paper we propose thatROS communications should be encrypted. We also measure howencryption affects its performance. We have used 3DES cypheringalgorithm and we have evaluated the performance of the system, both from the computing and the communications point of view.Preliminary results show that symmetric ciphers using privatekeys impose significant delays YR 2016 FD 2016-06-07 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10612/5236 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10612/5236 NO XVII Workshop en Agentes Físicos, 16-17 de junio, 2016, Málga DS BULERIA.
