AB This paper endeavours to analyse the function and effectiveness of thetranslation process as applied to the relatively new genres of dubbing andsubtitling. It must be admitted that modern translation theory cannot beapplied in its present state to translating a script for the purpose ofdubbing or subtitling. The non-textual nature of film implies that a differentapproach should be adopted in converting the Source Script into the targetlanguage
