AB In the past few decades there has been an increasing interest in cross-linguistic studies, especially with the new developments made available by computerised corpora. Moreover, contrastive studies have recently moved into new areas of research, such as pragmatics and discourse analysis, and a growing number of studies focus on spoken communication and units such as pragmatic or discourse markers, which are particularly common in speech.
