Abstract
[EN] Plant species that frequently suffer the consequences of fire have been acquiring adaptive characteristics over time. In the present work, the effect of the high temperatures reached in a fire of moderate and high severity on the germination of two species of pines, Pinus pinaster Ait. and Pinus sylvestris L., is analyzed. For which, germination in petri dishes and germination and growth in pots are studied, comparing the response depending on the type of soil. The results of the experiment show a notable difference in terms of germination, being that of Pinus pinaster Ait. seeds much higher than that of Pinus sylvestris L. Pinus pinaster Ait. seeds show a higher germination rate both at 70oC and in the control situation, although neither of the two species can withstand temperatures of 110oC. Pot germination of Pinus sylvestris L. seeds was not obtained. The growth of the aerial and subterranean parts of Pinus pinaster Ait. seedlings is not affected by high temperatures or the type of substrate, although the latter does seem to affect the aerial/underground part length ratio.
