La zona de libre comercio continental africana y la influencia de China en África

Abstract

[ES] Tras conseguir la independencia, los estados africanos buscan el desarrollo del continente mediante la armonización y la integración de sus instituciones. En este sentido, el último gran paso ha sido la firma de la Zona de Libre Comercio Africana en 2018. Ésta conlleva una serie de retos y oportunidades donde la influencia de potencias extranjeras es clave. En este caso, se analiza la presencia de China en el desarrollo económico africano, con especial atención al impacto de la Belt and Road Initiative. Para ello, este trabajo, intenta estudiar las relaciones comerciales sino-africanas, así como los intereses compartidos de estos dos proyectos. En primer lugar, se trata de ofrecer una contextualización de las relaciones económicas y diplomáticas entre África y China. Por otro lado, la segunda parte del trabajo trata las relaciones comerciales africanas, así como las relaciones económicas sino-africanas. Se comienza analizando las relaciones comerciales africanas con el resto del mundo y posteriormente se estudia el comercio intracontinental africano. Por último, se analiza la presencia de China en África mediante un estudio de sus relaciones comerciales y de la inversión extranjera directa emitida al continente.

[EN] After obtaining independence, African states seek to develop the continent through harmonising and integrating their institutions. In this regard, the most recent milestone has been the signing of the African Continental Free Trade Area in 2018. This involves a series of challenges and opportunities where the influence of foreign powers is key. In this case, China’s presence in African economic development is analysed, with a special focus on the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative. To this purpose, this paper attempts to study Sino-African trade relations and the shared interests of these two projects. The first part of the study provides a background to economic and diplomatic relations between Africa and China. On the other hand, the second part of the paper deals with African trade relations, as well as Sino-African economic relations. It begins by looking at Africa's trade relations with the rest of the world, followed by a study of Africa's intra-continental trade. Finally, China's presence in Africa is analysed through a study of its trade relations and foreign direct investment issued to the continent.
